It’s trite but true: a picture is worth a thousand words. In our emoticon-spouting, animated GIF meme-ing, Facebook-loving times, we communicate, more and more, through images. The Freebie Image Gallery features high-resolution images available through the Devil’s Artisan, our very own Journal of the Printing Arts. DA’s Dingbats Section offers an ever-expanding selection of free, high-resolution, downloadable dingbats, ornaments and fanciful initials for your printed and online projects.

Are you more of a glass-half-empty or glass-half-full kind of person? Are you a goodie-two-shoes, or do you enjoy being a little bit naughty? Or maybe a combination of both? With Halloween coming up, we’re sure to see all manner of costumes knocking on our doors, whether they be cute or creepy. In honour of the dichotomy sure to await us, here are some celestial visions juxtaposed with cringeworthy creatures that you can use in your digital and print design projects.

Angel: Doesn’t get much more iconic than this celestial scene.

Demon: On the other hand, I don’t really know what the heck is going on here, but it looks suitably chilling.

Angel: These winged beings supposedly represent Genius, Virtue and Reputation.

Demon: Of course death, represented by this little skeleton here, is not to be forgotten.

Angel: Look at these adorable cherubim. Plus, and I can’t stress this enough, there’s cake.

Demon: This gargoyle doesn’t look like it would very effectively convey water away from the roof of any edifice, but it’s still bug-eyed and creepy looking, so there’s that.
We hope you find a few interesting uses for these vintage dingbats. For more fun (and free!) images, check out our entire collection over at the Dingbats Section of the Devil’s Artisan. And of course, we’d love to see what kind of creative projects you get up to so be sure to send them along!
Happy crafting,
