Calling All Ontario Writers!

Books, inkwell and quill pen displayed on table.

Are you or someone you know a writer with a recent publishing history living in Ontario? If so, you may be eligible to receive a grant of up to $5,000, courtesy of the Ontario Arts Council, to fund your next writing project.

The Recommender Grants for Writers program seeks to support and develop literary talent in Ontario, and to strengthen connections between writers and the broader publishing community. Eligible writers can apply to third-party recommenders—like the Porcupine’s Quill—who submit grant recommendations to the Ontario Arts Council on the basis of your writing sample, CV and your answers to short application questions.

The program runs from September 1, 2021 to January 15, 2022, though we recommend that you send in your application as early as possible.

You can learn about eligibility, deadlines, reporting requirements and more on the Ontario Arts Council website.

Keep in mind that we will receive a large volume of submissions. It might take some time before you find out the status of your submission, and, of course, not all submissions will be successful.

We are looking forward to reading your work!
